Fan Wall Unit: 4 Reasons a Computer Room Needs Ventilation

A CRAH (computer room air handler unit) is a device that monitors and maintains the temperature, air distribution, and humidity in a server room, network room, or data centre. And to cool data centres, CRAH units have replaced the old air conditioning units. Fans blow air over cooling coils in CRAH units. However, instead of filling the cooling coils with refrigerant, they are filled with chilled water. They have superior humidity control mechanisms and better airflow than conventional air conditioning systems.

Here are some reasons why your computer lab requires a CRAH.

    1. Mitigate heat

The larger the computer, the more heat it will produce. Because of this, data centre providers will need computer room air conditioning. If you run a business or rely on a computer at work, you must ensure a constant flow of cool air, not only for your own sake but also for the sake of your employees. These computers contain crucial information for your business and daily life.

    2. Less dust

The disadvantage of having so many electronic devices in one area is that dust accumulates more quickly than usual. Those dust bunnies (if ignored) can spell danger! Long-term accumulation of dust and dirt on your sensing cable can result in various issues, the worst of which is overheating.

    3. Control humidity

In addition to dust, humidity levels may contribute to an overheated computer room. Rapidly moving a computer from a cold outdoor environment to a humid indoor set-up can result in dust-laden condensation. Getting a fan wall unit is the most effective method for controlling humidity levels.

    4. Simple cooling system

CRAH cooling systems have fewer components, so there’s less maintenance than CRAC systems. However, CRAH requires excellent plumbing systems, which could be a disadvantage. The water flow will not be consistent if the plumbing is inefficient. It, in turn, affects the temperature of the cooling coil.
