When you are doing your laundry over the weekend, something which you probably don’t like doing but it’s necessary, having a dryer that isn’t working properly can make things even worse. If your dryer is acting up and clothes are still wet even after they have been in there for a while, it might be time for some repairs.

But, before you go ahead and call the pros, here are some reasons why your dryer isn’t working properly.

    1. Lint Trap Issues

One of the most common reasons a dryer stops working properly is because of lint buildup. If you haven’t done any maintenance work on your dryer for some time, then the lint from your clothes might have built up in the lint trap.

Every time you dry your clothes, tiny fibers come off and collect in the lint trap. If you don’t clean the lint trap regularly, it can get clogged and prevent your dryer from working efficiently. That is why you dryer may take even longer to dry out, or not work at all.

That is why, you should take a look at the lint trap and clean it out as soon as possible.

    2. Blocked Ventilation

Another reason why your dryer might not be working properly is the ventilation is not properly working.

There is a vent that leads from your dyer to the outside. Over time, the vent can be blocked by lint and other types of debris.

This blockage can cause your dryer to overheat and potentially stop working altogether. Not to mention, this can also be a fire hazard.

    3. Overloading the Dryer

While it might be tempting to throw all your clothes into one load to save time, overloading your dryer can cause a lot of problems.

When you put too many clothes in the dryer, you are not leaving enough space for them to tumble freely. That is why they are taking longer to dry and hurting your dryer’s components.

You should always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for load size to ensure your dryer works efficiently.

    4. Power Supply Problems

Another common issue with your dryer might not be the dryer itself but the power supply.

If your dryer isn’t turning on at all, check to make sure that it is properly plugged in. Also, check your home’s circuit breaker or fuse box to see if a fuse has blown or a breaker has tripped. Resetting the breaker or replacing the fuse might solve the problem.

If you’re still having issues, it could be a problem with the dryer’s electrical components. For that, you need to call in a dryer repair professional.

    5. Worn-Out Parts

Another common reason why your dryer might not be working properly is that the parts have suffered. Like all machines, the dryers have plenty of moving parts. Over time, these can easily wear out or get damaged. Especially if the dryer has been working harder or more lately.

If you hear strange noises coming from your dryer, such as squeaking, grinding, or thumping, it could be a sign that one of the parts is worn out.

In these cases, you should call a professional who has experience in appliance repairs. They can diagnose the issue and replace the necessary parts to get your dryer running smoothly again.
