What Is A Proxy Server And How It Works

Even if you use the Internet only for checking your Facebook feed or watching funny videos about cats, you should know at least basic information on how the web works. Along with antivirus software, it is a great idea to consider using a proxy. Don’t know what is it, and why is it essential for your PC? Let’s find out.

    What is a proxy?

A proxy server (or just a proxy) is something like an overpass connecting the net and a user. Generally, when you are surfing the Internet, your computer (or a smartphone) connects to the websites outright, without any stops. Everything changes when proxies come to play. With a proxy, your browser acts differently: at first, it reaches out to the proxy, and only then the proxy reroutes your request to the website, you are going to visit. A proxy also gets the website’s response and transmits it back to you. You should use different proxies for different counties. For instance, if you want an IP address from the United Kingdom, use a UK proxy.

How does a proxy server work?

The key principle is quite simple. Your PC and web servers are in a close relationship without a proxy. The websites you are accessing can observe your system and communicate with it immediately. As a result, your IP address is available to the public. However, what should you do if you want to hide your activity in the virtual world? Buy proxy to solve this concern.

A proxy server is an intermediate point between you and the web. Therefore, it manages the traffic according to your needs. With its own IP address, the server is actually another machine that’s joined to both the net and your PC. The information about your computer is open only to the proxy as it handles both incoming and outcoming traffic.
